Our Collection of Akro Agate Items With Wire Holders

wire 314 Shown is a nice Akro Wire item that we added to our collection. The wrought iron type metal Holder displays an orange, marbleized with orangeish brown, Akro Agate #314 Narrow Ledge Vase. Both pieces are in mint condition. We are very fond of these earlier wrought iron type Holders made for Akro Agate items.
291.5 Shown is a cute little olive green marbleized Akro Agate #291&1/2 Ribbed Band Pot sitting in a small, leafed, swan-shaped, wire holder, made by another company. These Akro/Wire pieces must have been fairly popular, since there are so many sizes and varieties of them that turn up.
wire This is a nice example of what is often called an "Akro Wire" item. The pot is an Akro delphite (light) blue #296 Ribs and Flutes Pot. The wire holder was made by another company to fit the Pot. The two pieces were then put together to be sold in a Department or Five and Dime store. This piece was probably meant to hold a vining houseplant, given the circular shape of the Holder.
new wire Shown is an orange, with orange "flames", Akro Agate #291&1/2" Ribbed Band Pot sitting in a little wrought iron type holder fashioned for it, back in the 1930's or 1940's. The entire item is only 2&3/4" high and is the smallest 'Akro Wire' item we've ever seen. We think it's darned cute!
1309 Shown is an Akro Agate #1310 orange, factory decorated, Pot. Its wire hanger and chain are also shown. This piece's factory decoration is rather worn and faded, but the Pot itself is in mint condition. All five types of Akro Agate's #1300 series Pots are hard to find.
Wire Holder Shown is a less common Akro Agate Wire item. It holds a two-tone green marbleized, Akro Lily Planter set in a metal holder fashioned to display it. It's a nice piece to display with our other Akro Wire items.
306CF This is a very nicely made Akro Agate #306CF Scalloped Top Ribs and Flutes Jardiniere (custard marbleized with orange and yellow). The Jardiniere is sitting in a leafed metal holder that was fabricated to fit it, by an intermediate metal working company, before the Jardiniere and its holder were sent on to be sold at a department store.
652 Shown is an Akro Agate #652 marbleized Rounded Rectangular Planter in a metal holder made to fit it. Akro's Marbleized Rounded Rectangular Planters are hard to find. The metal holder is an added plus!
Wire Shown is an older Akro Agate "wire" item. The "leafed" Holder has a very art deco look to it. The pot is an Akro Agate yellow #297 Ribs and Flutes Pot.
Wire Holders An Akro Oval Planter marbleized with aqua-green and set in a metal mesh basket made to fit it. The aqua-green is rather unusual for an Akro piece. This Planter is fully marked, however.
Wire Holders Shown is an Akro Agate #654 custard (ivory) Oval Planter, with mint factory decoration, sitting in a leafed metal Stand. The Stand was made by another company to hold the Akro Oval Planter. The two pieces were then sold together in stores, as a decorative unit, to hold a houseplant or a flower arrangement.
Wire Holders Shown is an Akro Agate Three Pot Holder with Pots and Base. This Stand holds three #292 Akro Ribbed Band Pots. The metal work was done by another company, as Akro worked only in glass. These Pot Holders were probably originally sold at "Woolworth's Five & Dime" stores to hold houseplants.
Wire Holders Shown is an Akro Agate Two Pot Holder with a green Akro Base. Placed in the Holder are a green Akro #297 Ribs & Flutes Scalloped Top pot and a green Akro #297 Ribs & Flutes Smooth Top pot, to show the two types of #297's. These Akro Two Pot Holders are a lot more difficult to find than the Akro Three Pot Holders are.
Wire Holders 306 Shown is an Akro Agate #306 Graduated Dart Square Mouthed Jardiniere, Type 2, Scalloped Top, with factory applied decoration. It sits in a wrought iron Stand made for it by another company. This item was made to be sold at "Woolworth's Five & Dime" stores, since the piece has a "W" on its base, indicating Akro's then ongoing contract with Woolworth's to make items for them.
Wire Holders 653 Shown is an Akro Agate 8" #653 Rectangular Planter sitting in an ivy-leafed metal Stand that was made to fit it. .
Wire Holders Shown are two Akro "wire' items. On the left is a yellow Akro #305 Ribs & Flutes Pot, sitting in a white metal Stand. On the right are two ivory (custard) with royal blue marbleization Akro #296 Ribs & Flutes Pots sitting in a wire Basket.
